About this lesson:
-----------------------------
Quick blues guitar tutorial, where I demonstrate a sweet blues concept I like to call "the micro pull-off". In this online guitar lesson, I show how you can apply this tiny concept to the guitar licks that you know already. I became aware of this technique when I saw Robben Ford (one of my heroes) use it live. It helps to add feeling and articulation to your blues phrasing. It really helped me improve on how to improvise.

I'll play the same blues licks in the key of E twice, first without the micro pull-off, and then with the micro pull-off. With a micro pull-off, you add a chromatic note that's in between as a grace note, so played very quickly. That means when you pick the string, you pull off almost instantly. I like to think of the grace note as small resistance to overcome, between two notes. The greatest value of this concept is that you can work it into the licks that you know already. It is often used with the b5 (flat five) in the blues scale.

Have fun with this concept for intermediate blues guitar players.

Cheers,
Maarten
