This is a dreamy melodic guitar solo titled ‘Lost In Thought‘, inspired by the mind’s racing and pondering about possibilities. The track consists of a 3-chord groove (Am7, Em7, Fmaj7) that intensifies as it progresses. My Gibson ES-335 is played in the intro, with effects from the Eventide H9 and the XLN Retro Color are added. Next is the real solo, beginning with long notes that follow the chords, and Part B is a short break. During this section, the bridge pickup is used, and a fuzz (Fractal Audio Systems AX-8) is added. Moreover, this was also the only good place to reverse the tremolo bar on the guitar for an effect that would follow later. Next is Part C, the climax of this dreamy melodic guitar solo and this section builds further on the intro and part A chords. After a fancy tapping lick, Part D serves as a post-chorus where the strings bring the track home. Lastly, part E is a short outro with piano and erhu, an uncommon but beautiful sound.

When it comes to the art of finger tapping, I consider myself a beginner, but I’m always up for a challenge! This melodic tapping lick, which is a lick in A minor, is played over a G-chord (bar 56) to Am (bar 57). The lick utilizes the open G-string and a rhythm that speeds up throughout bar 56. Starting with sixteenth notes on beats 1, it transitions into sixteenth note sextuplets on beats 2 and 3, and ultimately culminates with 32nd notes on beat 4.
